Mystic Connecticut is so nautically charming

Located on the banks of the Mystic River, Mystic, Connecticut is a charming town built on its nautical roots. Located south of Boston and north of New York City, the town is easily accessible via I-95, and visitors can spend the day or a weekend exploring the quaint downtown, chock-full of delightful shops and restaurants.

Mystic is also home to two excellent attractions, the Mystic Seaport, built on Mystic’s shipbuilding heritage and the world’s largest nautical museum; and the Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, a world-class aquarium and scientific institute where visitors can discover the many wonders of the nautical world.

Mystic Seaport is an authentic recreation of a typical 19th century seaport village, including over 30 period buildings containing everything from a printing office to a lighthouse and working shipbuilding yard still creating wooden sailing boats today. Covering 19 acres, Mystic Seaport also offers tours of tall ships, so the whole family can experience just what it was like to sail on one of these historic beauties.

The Mystic Aquarium offers special events year-round, and gives visitors the chance to get up close to many of the most common sea animals and plants in the New England area and far beyond. You can enjoy an encounter with a penguin or manta ray, take in a sea lion show, and wander through amazing exhibits of coral, dolphins, and many more aquatic animals.

Mystic’s history as a seaport leads to all kinds of nautical recreation activities, from sailing to boat tours, but even if you’re not into the nautical side of the city, you’ll find plenty of activities to keep you entertained. Try a visit to the local casinos, just a short drive from Mystic, tour wineries for a leisurely afternoon of wine tasting, or visit some of the many Mystic art galleries and shops for local crafts and artwork.

Whatever you’re looking for, you can find it in the tiny, classic New England town of Mystic!
