A Note to All Travelers
To travel is to step beyond the comfortable surroundings of the familiar world and venture off into the unknown. This is one of the greatest adventures a person can embark on, especially in youth. If you are reading this note because you intend to travel, then you are already among an elite class of daring individuals who want – indeed thirst – for a greater understanding of the world we live in.
Whether you are planning a trip to Turkey or Zimbabwe, to France or Bangladesh, the objective is to get out and see: To experience how others live and look at life. Traveling is the ultimate adventure, and the highest education. To travel is to live life to its fullest.
There are no prerequisites to being a traveler, other than having an open mind and a curiosity of things unknown. You can be 18 or 80 years old and travel with a backpack or a suit case. You can budget $5 a day or $50 a day. The externalities are secondary: it is the motivation behind the action that determines the quality of the experience.
There are as many reasons to travel as there are travelers themselves, but there is something that ties even the most diverse of travelers together: A sense of adventure, a heightened self confidence and a positive outlook on life. Travelers are of a character that seldom sits still. There are always wondering what is on the other side of the mountain. The tourist tours, usually in groups and focuses most of his or her attention on seeing, on just “window shopping”. The traveler travels, he or she focuses on experience – meeting the people and attempting an emphatic understanding of life from their viewpoints.
Travelers are positive, highly motivated, intensely interesting and wonderfully inquisitive. Their experiences have shown them that the world is a wonderful place. They have a good understanding of global events, and feel comfortable with anyone in any circumstance.
It is my vision that through increased travel and a greater understanding of the universe we live in, the world will become a better place. World peace and stability can only come through global understanding. Global understanding is achieved through interaction. Interaction is what happens when you travel.
