Staycations on the Rise Again in 2010

Rather than opting for expensive holidays abroad, many couples and families are opting to go on ”staycations” in the UK, in a bid to save the pennies.

Short breaks or day trips are expected to overtake expensive holidays in locations such as Europe, the US or Asia. Instead of opting for traditional week or two week trips, it is reported that over a third of people in the UK have decided that staying closer to home is the best rest and recuperation option, rather than cutting out the option of a holiday entirely. Many hardworking individuals and families feel they owe it to themselves to have a holiday, but perhaps don’t have the money to go abroad or want to save for more prudent matters – so a ”staycation” presents the perfect option.

Particularly popular with couples for short breaks are cities such as Bath, Edinburgh and London, offering cultural delights alongside bustling nightlife. For those wanting a getaway with a vacation style theme, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight offer tranquil, island based locations, with enough activities to please the children.

For a retro chic and fun filled break, caravan holidays are becoming fashionable once more. Whether you decide to rent a static caravan or tow one around to various campsites across the UK, caravans provide freedom, comfort and privacy, as well as being an economically friendly option. Although many caravans aren’t equipped with high-tech luxuries such as games consoles, they promote a sense of community, as families interact together, without distraction.

As with 2008 and 2009, the trend for ”staycations” is set to continue to rise in summer 2010, with rising fuel prices contributing to tightened budgets. So expect hotels and B&Bs across the UK to be busy in the upcoming holiday season – the saying ”book early to avoid disappointment,” comes to mind!
