Belém Tower

One of the oldest districts in central Lisbon, wander around the narrow streets and do a spot of shopping. By night, the streets come alive as the bars and clubs are filled, experience the traditional Portuguese Fado music in one of the bars.
Monument to the Discoveries
Belém is the site where many of the Portuguese explorers set off to discover new land in the 15th Century. Admire the Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries), a 52m high concrete monument by the riverside.
Castelo de Sao Jorge
Climb the steep winding streets to the fortified medieval castle which towers above the city and the River Tagus on one of the highest hills in Lisbon – alternatively take the Tram 28 to avoid the steep walk and admire the scenery along the way.
Santa Justa Elevator
Ride the Elevador de Santa Justa. The area’s highlight is the wrought-iron neogothic 147 ft high elevator which offers an easy ride up to the Bairro Alto area. Treat yourself to a drink at the rooftop cafe and enjoy the amazing views.
Travel on Tram 28
The vintage 28 tram takes tourists and locals from the lower part of the city to the higher part of Lisbon passing through the narrow winding backstreets to reach Castelo de Sao Jorge. It’s a great way to see the best sights of the city in comfort!
Monastery of St Jerome
One of the most prominent buildings in Belém, the gothic style cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage list along with the nearby Belém Tower. Take a look around the building’s stylish interior to escape the heat of the midday sun.
Belém pastry
Stop by the famous 160-year old pastry shop on Belém’s main street Rua de Belém and sample a pastel de Belém, a traditional custard tart made with flaky pastry.
